Ode to Joy...or the cause of joy.

I don't know where to begin. This post is inspired by how great I feel. I feel great because of a little drug called zofran. I'm taking zofran because I am with child. Yes, you heard it here first, maybe?

I have been a barf bag for the last several weeks, 4 or 5, I'm beginning to lose track. I do know what every little crevice of our toilet looks like. I'm 10 weeks-ish. Zofran is the third thing I've tried to help quell the nausea and vomiting, and while I would normally be crashed in bed right now, as Cora is asleep in hers, I just couldn't do it. I feel too good to sleep.

We heard our little baby's heart beat for approximately 2 seconds yesterday, and it was amazing. Just a reassurance, and reason enough to finally spill the beans. I'm ever so cautious now, after our first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 12 weeks. I think I told everyone, perfect strangers, and it was hard when people, even months later, asked how the pregnancy was going.

I'm leaning towards a boy. It would be so much easier to have a girl because of all the girl stuff we already have, but we shall see, and I will be in-love either way. So if we have a girl, her name will be Magnolia Jane McInnes, and if we have a boy his name will be Atticus Zebedee....even though I've been dreaming of Henry. We shall see again. And in my heart of hearts, I keep wanting more than one. Not because I want two babies at once as much as I don't want to be pregnant as many times. Two friends found out they're having twins. So cool!

And lastly, my OB is really great, I've already been to her three times. On my first visit, she told me about progesterone shots as a way to prevent preterm labor. The research is fairly new, but I'm excited to have a plan to try and prevent going into labor at 32 weeks and having a baby at 35 weeks. So somewhere between 16 and 20 weeks, I'll start getting a weekly shot of progesterone. Wish me luck on that one! I'll have to give them to myself if I start before 20 weeks when I'm in Texas and Oklahoma in January and early February.

I am so happy to be pregnant, and especially happy that I'm not bogged down in an overwhelming state of nausea today. LOVE!

PS: It's snowing in Chicago.

  1. Oh my goodness! I'm so excited for you two! I had no idea this was coming, but I'm sure glad that I looked at this post today! How far along are you? I don't remember seeing that in here but I quite possibly could have just read right over it. Anyway, congratulations!! I'm so happy for you and I can't wait for this new baby! I'm glad that Andrew will have some "cousins" close to his age, with Cora and this new baby! Love you Brie, I hope that Chicago is lovely and that you and Jake and Cora are loving it!

  3. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm so excited for you guys! Congratulations! And a second congratulations that you found the cure for your nausea! This is really exciting. So if you're ten weeks, when does that put you due?

P.S. I saw that it was snowing in Chicago and guess what.... it was 69 degrees in Boston! Crazy huh. I wore a T-shirt today and was sweating... This is NOT what I ever expected to happen. It is however supposed to snow on Saturday. Weird.

  9. Oh Brianne! I am so happy for you! Those progestrone shots kind of hurt, you'll probably have to have Jake give them to you. I like the names you have picked out. Are you going to be in Edmond while visiting Oklahoma?

  10. Congratulations!! I just thought of you the other day thinking you were probably going to announce any day now that you're pregnant. Our birthday twins are just at that age where it would be perfect for them to become big sisters. I am so happy for you and excited to see if Cora will get a baby brother or a baby sister!

  15. Congratulations - this IS joyous news! I love the names you have selected. Pink or blue, however, I hope the 17p (progesterone) helps you go fullterm.

  16. Congrats BrieAnn!!! I did the progesterone shots with Kate since Ben was born at 35 weeks. Be prepared...they sting. Kate was still born at 36 weeks so not sure they did anything, but you never know. David gave them to me. You can probably save some money if you have Jake do them. Its easy to learn. Congrats again! Lets us know when you find out what you are having. If the nausea continues you can also try vitamin B 6 (10 mg) in the morning and unisom (1/2 tab in the am and 1/2 tab in the pm). It worked wonders for me and its all over the counter. Good luck!
